ABS Protocol Reaches 42 Ratifications

The European Union (EU), Namibia, and Samoa ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) in May 2014, followed by Belarus, Guatemala, Spain, and Uganda, which ratified in June 2014, and Vanuatu, which ratified on 1 July 2014, bringing the total number of ratifications to 42.

The Nagoya Protocol will enter into force 90 days after the deposit of the 50th instrument of ratification. The deadline for ratifications, so that the first Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol can be held concurrently with CBD COP 12, is 7 July 2014. [List of Signatures and Ratifications]
