“Future We Want” Campaign Highlighted as Example of New Media Use

Maher Nasser of the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) noted that “The Future We Want” global conversation on sustainable development has reached more than six million social media users, providing an example of using new media tools for outreach.

Other speakers highlighted DPI's efforts to catalyze support for Rio+20.

RIO+20 - The Future We Want23 April 2012: Speaking at the opening of the 34th session of the Committee on Information, the Acting Head of the UN Department of Public Information (DPI), Maher Nasser, referred to the use of new media tools for outreach, highlighting that “The Future We Want” global conversation on sustainable development has reached over six million social media users.

The Committee on Information is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), responsible for overseeing the work of DPI and providing it guidance on policies, programmes and activities.
