Organized by UN Environment Programme (UNEP) African Eurasian Waterbird Agreement and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2011 will focus on the theme “Land-Use Changes From a Bird's-Eye View.” The theme is intended to raise awareness about the dramatic effects human land use has on migratory birds and the ecosystems upon which they depend. WBMD was initiated in 2006 and is a global awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. On the second weekend each May, people around the world take action and organise public events such as bird festivals, education programmes and birdwatching excursions to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and to help raise awareness around a specific theme.
