World AMR Awareness Week 2024 will focus on the theme, ‘Educate, Advocate. Act Now’. The theme calls on the global community to educate stakeholders on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a pressing global and socioeconomic crisis and to advocate for bold commitments and take concrete actions in response to AMR.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses no longer response to antimicrobial agents. AMR can have significant impacts on human and animal health, food production, and the environment.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) organize the Week. The organizations chose the theme based on the results of an online survey among stakeholders from the human, animal, plant, and environmental health sectors.

Events will convene throughout the week, with in person, hybrid, and virtual events around the world.
