Workshop on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystems Nexus Assessment in the Sava River Basin

The Workshop on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystems Nexus Assessment in the Sava River Basin is expected to contribute to further integration of water policy, as well as dialogue with key stakeholders, both of which have been identified as key objectives in river basin management. The workshop aims to provide inputs to the Sava nexus assessment, as well as opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to developing the assessment's approach and scope, and influence the materials to be used. Sectoral authorities, the private sector and civil society will have the opportunity to discuss: needs and policy challenges related to intersectoral coordination and cooperation; and how the assessment could link to and provide information for decision making at various levels. The Sava River Basin was selected as one of the transboundary basins where the nexus assessment will be conducted, based on interest expressed by the International Sava River Basin Commission's (ISRBC) member countries. Participation in the assessment will benefit participating countries and actors through: increased resource-use efficiency and policy coherence; identification of opportunities for improving inter-sectoral coordination and transboundary cooperation; and increased capacity to address intersectoral impacts. The workshop is being organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the ISRBC, while the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Environment and Security Initiative are funding the nexus assessment.
