Workshop on Supporting Evidence-based VNRs and SDG Reporting: Data and Statistics Innovations

The Workshop on Supporting Evidence-based Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and SDG Reporting will bring together representatives from national statistical offices engaged on SDG reporting and the VNR process to discuss available tools and resources for data and statistics innovations. The meeting will support countries in developing evidence-based VNRs and encourage the inclusion of data and statistics in SDG reporting, including through a data roadmap for the VNR.

The effective follow-up and review of progress made towards the SDGs is essential for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and VNRs prepared by Member States play a critical role in this follow-up and review process. Since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, countries have enhanced their SDG monitoring frameworks, resulting in improved inclusion of data and progress assessments in VNRs and overall SDG reporting. Still, limited evidence and data availability challenges continue to constrain SDG monitoring. This workshop aims to help address these challenges by sharing tools and resources for VNR and SDG reporting.

The UN Statistics Division (UNSD) is organizing the workshop in collaboration with UN agencies. The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESCRIC) is hosting the meeting. The workshop will also share country experiences and lessons learned for enhancing data and statistics in the preparation of VNRs and reporting.
