Workshop on Capacity Building for Sustainable Waste Management in Asia-Pacific

This workshop on Capacity Building for Sustainable Waste Management in the Asia-Pacific Region to Promote the Eco-Town Model and Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) is organized by the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Jeju, Republic of Korea affiliate of its International Training Centre for Local Actors (CIFAL) network, and the Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC). The workshop seeks to help Asia-Pacific high-level authorities, NGOs and other local actors understand and apply UNITAR's CityShare methodology and UNEP IETC's integrated solid waste management (ISWM) and Eco-town methodologies to develop ISWM plans to transform cities into “eco-towns.” UNEP IETC defines “eco-towns” as those that “close the loop” as locally as possible and reduce their environmental footprint, and in the particular case of waste, reduce final waste quantities.
