Why Smarter Grids? Regional Drivers for Smart Grid Deployment and Lessons Learned from Current Projects

This workshop, organized by the International Energy Agency’s Implementing Agreement for a Co-operative Programme on Smart Grids (IEA-ISGAN), will explore lessons learned from current practices in smart grid systems. It will cover topics ranging from drivers for smart grid deployment to presentations of demonstration projects. The workshop will also allow for conversations among experts in sessions examining the role of technologies, standards, interoperability, measuring impacts, scalability, replicability and consumer engagement. The opportunity for site visits is tentatively scheduled at various points of the workshop. Speakers will include Roland Roesch, Senior Analyst – Renewable Energy Markets and Technology Dialogue, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
