UNLDC-V: Fifth UN Conference for the Least Developed Countries [Postponed]

The Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-V) was expected to take place from 23-27 January 2022, in Doha, Qatar, but it has been postponed due to the global pandemic.  The January dates were agreed on 11 August 2020, after the Conference was originally scheduled for March 2021.

The Conference is expected to adopt a ten-year programme of action for the least developed countries (LDCs) to succeed the Istanbul Programme of Action for the LDCs (IPoA), which concludes in 2020. The goal of the that ten-year Programme was to overcome LDCs’ structural challenges in order to eradicate poverty and achieve internationally agreed development goals. The 2022 conference is expected to appraise the results and adopt a new, strengthened framework to support LDCs.
