The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) SIDS Unit, in consultation with the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and in cooperation with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Group on SIDS, are convening a series of sub-regional SIDS preparatory meetings for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The Pacific SIDS' preparatory meeting will be held at the ministerial level, in conjunction with the Pacific Island Forum Economic Ministers' Meeting (FEMM). Participants will include ministers, representatives of development partners and of the multilateral, regional and national nongovernment organizations. In addition, an Open Forum on Green Growth will be held from 20-21 July 2011, as part of the preparatory meeting. The purpose of the Forum is to promote discussions and an understanding of the issues that surround the green economy theme of the UNCSD.
