The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA, or UNESCWA) and partners will convene this meeting in preparation for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and in conjunction with the Joint Committee on Environment and Development (JEDAR). It will be preceded by a one-day training, on 15 October 2011, offered by the UNCSD Secretariat, ESCWA, and Stakeholder Forum, for regional Major Groups and other partners, to build capacity to engage with the Rio+20 process.
