UN General Assembly Side Event on Islamic Finance and Impact Investing for the SDGs

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), in collaboration with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), is organizing this high-level event during the 71st UN General Assembly session. The event will highlight the possibilities for commercially viable Islamic financial instruments to provide social benefits and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Current facilities for promoting Islamic finance include the Global Islamic Finance and Impact Investing Platform (GIFIIP), led by IsDB and UNDP's Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development. A panel of speakers will discuss ways to operationalize Islamic finance as an enabler for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, bearing in mind the trillions of dollars that will be needed. The IsDB and UNDP previously organized a similar event during the UN Sustainable Development Summit 2015.
