Nagoya University and JICA, under the auspices of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), are organizing this symposium on the issues and prospects of industrial skills development in Africa, in relation to human resource demands from Japanese private companies. The Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI), which was held in August 2016, highlighted the importance of industrial human resource development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also emphasize the importance of education and capacity development as a precondition for sustainable development, economically, environmentally, and socially. However, meeting the constantly changing skills demands is a major challenge.
