Sustainable Biomass for Electricity Conference (SB4E)

The Conference on Sustainable Biomass for Electricity (SB4E), organized by UN-Energy in cooperation with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) and other partners, will consider the role of biomass technologies in decarbonizing the global energy system. Acknowledging the readily available and cost effective potential for emission reductions that could be achieved through the large-scale deployment of sustainable biomass for electricity production, the SB4E Conference will provide an opportunity for governments, international organizations and the private sector to share knowledge, lessons, best practices and experiences and to join efforts towards decarbonizing electricity generation. The GBEP grew out of the 2005 Gleneagles G8 Plan of Action and was launched during the Ministerial Segment of the 14th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 14) in New York, on 11 May 2006. As of January 2012, GBEP Partners include the following 23 countries and 12 international organizations and institutions: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Fiji, France, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Japan, Mauritania, Mexico, Netherlands, Paraguay, Russian Federation, Spain, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, UK, US, European Commission, FAO, IDB, IEA, UNCTAD, UN/DESA, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, UN Foundation, World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) and European Biomass Industry Association (EUBIA).
