Organized by IUCN and the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), and two Mäori organisations, Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa (a tribal authority) and Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi (a tribal university), this conference will focus on decentralization in the governance and management of biocultural resources, and enabling indigenous peoples and local communities to have greater rights and responsibilities in governance and management of the landscapes and ecosystems they live in and near.
