16 March 2012 New York City, US
Second UNCTAD Workshop on the Trade Dimension of Rio+20

Co-organized by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), this workshop follows up on a previous workshop that reviewed trade and sustainable development issues, illustrated how trade and the green economy can contribute to sustainable development, and discussed implications of selected elements of the compilation document of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). This second workshop provides an opportunity for delegates to discuss these issues in greater depth and improve participants' understanding of trade and environment policies, as well as opportunities for enhancing their mutual supportiveness, preventing their use for protectionist purposes, and managing the undesirable impacts environment policies may have on trade and vice-versa. The workshop is open to members of permanent missions and permanent observer missions.
