Second Informal Consultation on ECOSOC and HLPF Reviews

The second informal consultation on the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) reviews will continue the informal process to reflect on how to ensure better engagement, interaction, and follow-up to harness ECOSOC and the ECOSOC system’s potential, including to achieve maximum progress on the SDGs.

In resolutions 75/290 A and B, the UNGA decided to conduct reviews of the arrangements during its 78th session, with the aim of learning from relevant processes under the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and ECOSOC related to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and from previous HLPF cycles.

The UNGA President appointed Paul Goa Zoumanigui, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Guinea to the UN, and Sanita Pavfuta-Deslandes, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Latvia to the UN, to co-facilitate the intergovernmental negotiations on the process.

The first consultation, on 15 February 2024, outlined the proposed approach, time, and plans for consultations and offered an opportunity for initial interventions on issues to be addressed in a zero draft. The second consultation will build on the previous consultation.
