SDGs Coming to Life: Envisioning a Common and Resilient Future

This event will explore the role of multi-stakeholder engagement for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in countries affected by conflict or disaster-driven crises based on a report published by the UN Development Group (UNDG), titled 'The SDGs are Coming to Life'. The report shows how countries are beginning to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and finds that national policy dialogues are engaging a broader range of stakeholders and that countries, including those in crisis or post-conflict situations, are working to implement the SDGs. Speakers at the event will focus on: how governments plan for sustainable development where emergency and recovery needs receive priority attention; the role of civil society and businesses and how they can help reach the most vulnerable people; how the UN fosters multi-stakeholder engagement and how its development and humanitarian agencies can better collaborate; and how to best track and review progress in attaining the SDGs in these situations. Speakers will include UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UNDG Chair Helen Clark. The UNDG, which was established in 1997, brings together those UN funds, programmes, specialized agencies, departments, and offices that play a role in development in over 160 countries.
