Satoyama Initiative: Healthy Planet, Healthy People

This side event “Satoyama Initiative: Healthy Planet, Healthy People” will take place during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2021. It aims to explore the role of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), Japan, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and the UN University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). It will highlight the contributions of SEPLS to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. It will also share knowledge and experiences from the global network of the Satoyama Initiative and explore how they can be upscaled and mainstreamed into policy dialogue.
