Sanitation Hackathon

Following the success of the first annual Water Hackathon, the Sanitation Hackathon will challenge programmers to develop original software solutions that address real-world sanitation problems. The Water Hackathon is a meeting of software developers with the aim of increasing awareness of water sector challenges facing developing countries amongst technical communities in-country and globally. The Sanitation Hackathon will focus on similar issues but involving sanitation, in particular poor coordination of sanitation activities at the local level. At the Sanitation Hackathon, civic technologists will develop solutions to challenges facing the sanitation sector. Objectives will be similar to those of the Water Hackathon, which include the creation of a network of atypical partners engaged in finding solutions to water-related challenges, the preparation of a list of challenges facing the water sector, the development of new applications designed to address these challenges, and the adoption of new applications and codes in World Bank projects. The event is supported by the World Bank, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Random Hacks of Kindness, Eirene, Nokia, Open Cities, and Civic Commons, and others.
