This side event to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) is organized by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). It describes early experiences in implementing the water, energy and food security nexus. This nexus is expected to be one of the major challenges in achieving universal access to these basic services without compromising planetary boundaries.
