The seminar is organized by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). The seminar will seek to help participants understand the debate on intellectual property protection and the rights of the poor, marginalized farmers in the region; to explore options available under the TRIPS Agreement to prepare legislation that would protect the rights of commercial breeders without impairing the rights of farmers to save, exchange, re-use and sell seeds; and to provide trade negotiators with skills and knowledge necessary to negotiate during the on-going review of the TRIPS Agreement.
