Parliamentary Forum at the 2024 HLPF

The Parliamentary Forum is one of a series of high-profile special events taking place on the sidelines of the 2024 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The event will engage parliamentarians in assessing progress towards the SDGs at the global level and offer an opportunity for parliamentary oversight of government action.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is convening several high-profile special events to highlight the impact of key sectors of society in driving SDG implementation, including this one on the role of parliaments. DESA will organize the Forum with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Forum is open to members of parliament attending the HLPF as part of national delegations.

The Forum will focus on two SDGs under review at the 2024 HLPF: SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions); and SDG 13 (climate change). Participants will consider concrete steps parliaments can take to advance these two SDGs. The event will also showcase best legislative practices on sustainable development from parliamentarians around the world.
