The One Planet: Polar Summit will be the first international summit dedicated to glaciers and poles. The Summit will bring together researchers and scientists from over 40 glacial and polar countries to share their findings and observations with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) experts, government representatives, heads of international institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and the private sector.

The 2023 Paris Peace Forum, which is taking place under the theme, ‘Seeking Common Grounds in a World of Rivalry,’ will host the Polar Summit. The Summit will take place within the context of economic and geopolitical challenges alongside threats to glacier and polar ecosystems. Organizing partners include the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC), the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, Arctic Circle, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS), and other polar and glacial organizations.

The Summit will feature a scientific forum and a political segment. The scientific forum will bring together the international scientific community from 8-9 November. The political segment will convene government leaders and glacial and polar leaders, including the President of France, on 10 November.
