My World, My SIDS: Consultation of Young People of the Small Island States of the Indian Ocean

The UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), with support from other UN agencies and regional organizations in small island developing States (SIDS) areas, are supporting a process for young people to share their issues, envision the future they want, and participate in developing the outcomes of the 2014 Third International Conference on SIDS. At this six-day workshop, young islanders are invited to express a common reflection on the destiny of their countries and issue suggestions that will serve as the starting point for the drafting of an outcomes document that will be the new plan of action for SIDS during the SIDS World Conference, organized by the UN in September 2014. The workshop participants also will elect representatives for upcoming regional and inter-regional preparatory meetings. This workshop is the third in the series, with the workshop for Caribbean youth having taken place from 26 June-1 July in Kingston, Jamaica, and the workshop for Pacific youth taking place from 4-9 July in Nadi, Fiji.
