MRV GHG Emissions Under Existing and Developing Carbon Pricing Mechanisms

The World Bank's Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR) and the Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (Climate-KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) are hosting a conference titled 'Monitoring, Reporting and Verifying GHG Emissions under Existing and Developing Carbon Pricing Mechanisms'. Taking place between the Carbon Expo 2014 and the June meeting of the UNFCCC's Subsidiary Bodies, the event will present analysis of sub-national, national, and sector-based greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting frameworks. Questions to be addressed include: what are the costs associated with MRV requirements; are there incentives to reduce uncertainty; is there a trade-off between uncertainty and costs for reporting entities; and how can MRV procedures be improved. Presenters will also consider how to create a “credible, consistent and compatible MRV infrastructure across the world to support global mitigation action”.
