MedCOP Climate 2016

MedCOP Climate 2016 will be held in advance of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 22), and aims to: contribute to international efforts to fight climate change from a regional perspective; act as a platform for dialogue and consultation among stakeholders across the Mediterranean region; strengthen solidarity among stakeholders; and determine best practices and innovative mechanisms for changing individual and collective behaviors. The meeting will bring together approximately 2000 representatives from 22 Mediterranean countries, the private sector, civil society, and regional and international organizations to: highlight existing climate initiatives in the region; formulate innovative ideas through local, national and regional networks; enable stakeholders to present and discuss the development of their projects; and raise awareness regarding the benefits of and need for climate action in the Mediterranean region. MedCOP 2016 also aims to: monitor commitments approved during the first MedCOP, held in Marseille, France, in June 2015; affirm the relevance of the Mediterranean dimension in combating climate change; and prepare a Mediterranean action plan, enabling the implementation of a mitigation and adaptation roadmap. The conference is organized by the Government of Morocco, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the COP 21 and COP 22 Presidencies, among others. The MedCOP convenes every year in advance of the UNFCCC COP.
