Launch Workshop of the Global GEF/FAO Project on Decision Support for Scaling Up and Mainstreaming Sustainable Land Management

The workshop will introduce the main technical concepts and approaches underpinning the project, which is coordinated by the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT) Secretariat. The three interrelated dimensions are: national and local decision-support on combating desertification land degradation and drought (DLDD) and promoting mainstreaming and upscaling best practices in sustainable land management (SLM); a global DLDD and SLM knowledge management and decision-support platform; and monitoring and evaluation, impact assessment and dissemination of project results. Representatives of 15 countries in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe that are participating in the project will provide an overview of their SLM status, as well as proposed strategies, actions and co-financing arrangements for the project. Participants will also review required support through mobilizing additional resources at the regional level. On the final day of the workshop, the project steering committee will convene its first meeting on operational and coordination issues.
