Launch of the UN System-Wide Framework of Strategies on the Environment

The UN System-Wide Framework of Strategies on the Environment (SWFS) will be launched by the Environment Management Group (EMG) during a side event during the second session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2), which is meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, from 23-27 May 2016.

The SWFS was prepared by the EMG in order to enhance the UN system's organizational and collective capacity to help countries implement the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It provides a flexible approach to achieving greater synergy, collaboration and coherence in the UN system's work on the environment, and the formulation of system-wide strategies on specific aspects of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda. Launch attendees will hear a presentation of the Framework, its expected outcomes and implementation processes, as well as views and expectations from relevant stakeholders.

The EMG, which was established in 2001, is a UN system-wide coordination body on environment and human settlements, and is chaired by the Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
