The high-level event “Launch of the First Hydromet Gap Report: Weather, climate and water services to underpin sustainable development” will take place during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2021, and aims to raise awareness of the foundational role of the development of high-quality weather forecasts, early warning systems, and climate information, collectively referred to as hydromet, in underpinning climate action and sustainable development.

Co-organized by the Alliance for Hydromet Development and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the event will launch the first Hydromet Gap Report, the flagship publication of the Alliance for Hydromet Development, with a presentation of findings related to the hydromet capacity gap, and recommendations for priority actions to close the gap –including the creation of the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF).
