The International Council for Science (ICSU) is organizing this workshop as an input to the regional preparatory meeting for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). Intended for scientists, engineers, high-level policymakers, and representatives of Major Groups, the workshop seeks to: formulate positions from the regional scientific and technological community regarding best available science in policy issues to be treated at Rio+20, and regarding regional scientific and technological priorities vis-a-vis sustainable development; organize a science-policy dialogue at the regional level prior to the Regional preparatory meeting; and organize a multi-stakeholder dialogue with other Major Groups, such as business and industry.
