Joint Meeting of the Adaptation Committee and the Nairobi Work Programme

This joint meeting of the Adaptation Committee and the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (NWP), titled 'Available tools for the use of indigenous and traditional knowledge and practices for adaptation, needs of local and indigenous communities, and the application of gender-sensitive approaches and tools for adaptation,' will seek to address questions related to these two themes. On indigenous and traditional knowledge, the meeting will address: best practices, trends, needs and limitations in the use of indigenous, traditional and local knowledge and practices; collecting, evaluating and disseminating such knowledge and practices for use by local, national and international adaptation practitioners; integrating such knowledge and practices with scientific knowledge in adaptation planning and implementation; and effectively engaging holders of indigenous, traditional and local knowledge and practices in the adaptation process. Regarding gender‐sensitive approaches and tools, the meeting will explore, inter alia: existing gender‐sensitive tools and approaches that can enhance understanding and assess impacts, vulnerability and adaptation; and how to integrate such approaches and tools across adaptation processes and ensure that adaptation initiatives are gender sensitive.
