An informal scientific workshop on assessment will be convened by the Government of Japan and hosted by the UN University in preparation for the first session of the plenary meeting on an Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). The goal of the workshop is to increase the understanding of the nature and scope of assessments to be undertaken by IPBES, and to provide options and recommendations as well as a more detailed analysis of the key elements that might guide the discussions and decisions to be made at the plenary meeting.
