This symposium is co-organized by Hiroshima University, the UN University’s Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, The Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, and the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature. It seeks to take stock of current knowledge and information on costs and benefits of REDD (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries), and to provide an opportunity to deliberate funding systems to support REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stock) that protect ecosystem services as well as secure the socioeconomic well-being of local communities.
