The International Soil and Water Forum 2024 will focus on halting and reversing soil degradation and water scarcity to achieve food security and a healthy environment. The event will convene under the theme, ‘Managing Water Scarcity and Reversing Soil Degradation for Sustainable, Resilient Agrifood Systems,’ with the aim to agree on a joint agenda for action.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Government of Thailand will co-organize the hybrid event. The Forum will bring together Heads of State, government ministers, researchers, the private sector, technical specialists, and youth from around the world in thematic sessions, side events, and a knowledge and technology fair.

The Forum will convene at a time when the world faces multiple environmental and socioeconomic challenges, including the climate crisis. Within this context, participants will discuss opportunities for a sustainable, integrated approach to soil and water management, including consideration of best practices and innovation. The Forum will address four themes:

  1. Managing water scarcity;
  2. Reversing land degradation, boosting land restoration;
  3. Sustainable soil management; and
  4. Integrated climate-resilient land, soil, and water management.
