International Mountain Day aims to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development, and build partnerships to bring positive change to the world’s mountains and highlands. In 2010, the theme of International Mountain Day is “Mountain minorities and Indigenous Peoples.”
