The International Day for Disaster Reduction will be celebrated on 13 October, under the theme of 'Living with Disability and Disasters'. According to the UN International Strategy on Disaster Reduction (ISDR), approximately one billion people live with some form of disability, representing one-fifth of the world's population, and such persons have unique contributions to help reduce the risk of disasters and build resilient societies and communities. The Day intends to raise awareness of the importance of including the needs of persons living with disabilities in the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR).
