International Conference on Valuation and Accounting of Natural Capital for Green Economy

The Ecosystem Services Economics (ESE) Unit of the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has initiated the work under the programme on “Valuation and Accounting of Natural Capital for Green Economy (VANTAGE)”, and is organizing this meeting. Specific objectives of the conference include: demonstrate the rationale and evidence-base of valuation and accounting of natural capital in the context of the Green Economy, highlighting merits of valuation and accounting towards achieving the Green Economy; build consensus among policy-makers on the need for valuation and accounting of natural capital, especially in the African region; discuss and develop an overall plan to implement valuation and accounting of natural capital in selected countries; promote sharing of information and lessons learned from various ongoing initiatives in the field of valuation and accounting of natural capital; and contribute to capacity development among high-level government officials in the field of valuation and accounting of natural capital towards achieving the Green Economy.
