Informal Meeting on the Follow-up to the Declaration on the Commemoration of the UN’s 75th Anniversary

The informal meeting of the plenary on the follow-up to the declaration on the commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations will be a closed meeting. There will be no pre-established list of speakers and delegations are encouraged to observe the time limits of 3 minutes for statements by individual delegations and 5 minutes for delegations speaking on behalf of a group of States.

As announced in letters from the President of the General Assembly, dated 8 December 2020, 10 December 2020 and 14 December 2020, regarding this meeting, UN Member States have been encouraged to consider the following questions in preparation for this discussion:

  • How can the General Assembly contribute to the implementing mandate given to the Secretary-General in order to deliver on the various commitments made in the UN75 Declaration?
  • In the context of this mandate, how can Member States contribute over the months to come to reinvigorating multilateralism and global governance in order to meet current and future challenges in an effective and sustainable way?
  • What are the implications of these questions for the United Nations? What existing or newly created tools should be made available? How can those tools be effective and best adapted to tackle current and future challenges?
