Informal Dialogues with Candidates for UN Secretary-General

UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft will hold a series of informal dialogues during which all candidates for UN Secretary-General will be able to present their candidatures to UN Member States. Each two-hour meeting will also allow for questions from Member States and from civil society representatives, time permitting. The UN-NGO Liaison Service is collecting questions to be posed to candidates, until 27 March. By resolution 69/321 of 11 September 2015, the UNGA agreed to conduct informal dialogues or meetings with candidates for the position of Secretary-General, without prejudice to any candidate who does not participate, thus contributing to the transparency and inclusivity of the process. The General Assembly President, along with Security Council President Samantha Power, issued a letter to Member States on 15 December 2015, to begin soliciting candidates and to set in motion the selection and appointment process.
