This workshop, organized by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), will explore present and future interactions between biofuels and food security, and draw lessons from analysis and field experience relevant for project developers, researchers and policymakers. The event will be organized around six discussion topics: economic security and development; energy security; environmental security; biofuels and food price volatility; institutional aspects, innovation and consequences of inaction; and integration and cross-cutting issues. Aimed at participants from the academia, international organizations active in the field, governmental organizations, the private sector and other interested parties, the workshop will seek to identify areas of consensus regarding barriers, gaps and opportunities related to: the assessment of biofuel-food security interactions; and recommendations for future research and implementation.
