High-Level Symposium on “A Renewed Global Partnership for Development for a Post-2015 Era”

This High-Level Symposium is the first major preparatory event for the 2014 Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The multi-stakeholder dialogue will include traditional donors, Southern development cooperation providers and representatives of private philanthropic organizations, local governments, parliaments and civil society, to explore the purposes of a renewed global partnership, its guiding principles, and key features of a post-2015 monitoring and accountability framework. According to Wu Hongbo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, “The outcomes of this symposium will directly contribute to the deliberations on the post-2015 UN development agenda and provide important recommendations for the 2014 ECOSOC DCF…. The findings will also be relevant for the Open Working Group [on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)] when discussing a global partnership for sustainable development in December 2013.” Among other surrounding events to the Symposium, on the afternoon of 7 June, Directors-General of Southern partners in development cooperation will meet, convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and Ethiopia.
