High-level Meeting on National Drought Policy +10

The High-level Meeting on National Drought Policy (HMNDP) +10 will convene under the theme, ‘Integrating Practice and Knowledge for Drought Resilience’. The Conference will bring together countries to review progress on drought management and lessons learned from the first HMNDP in 2013. The event will explore and define a joint way forward towards a drought-resilient world.

This meeting will build on the outcomes of the first HMNDP, which focused on the theme, ‘Reducing Societal Vulnerability – Helping Society (Communities and Sectors)’. The meeting resulted in the creation of many drought management initiatives and partnerships and catalyzed progress worldwide, shifting the world from a reactive, crisis-oriented approach to drought towards a more proactive, forward-looking approach to integrated drought management. Still, drought risk continues to increase globally, with more frequent and intense drought events.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) are organizing the conference in collaboration with a number of international and regional organizations.
