The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), through the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) and in agreement with EMBRAPA-SOLOS, is currently funding the implementation of the “Sistema de Información de Suelos de Latinoamerica” Phase I and II. Capacity development on digital soil mapping is the core of this project and is implemented by EMBRAPA-Solos with the active participation of 20 countries in the region. Distance and in-situ training sessions have been successfully implemented, with 60 soil scientists in the region taking part in the effort. From 18 to 22 March 2013, the second training will take place at EMBRAPA-SOLOS with lectures from this institution and the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA), Argentina.
