25 September 2018 marks the third anniversary of the adoption of the SDGs. To mark this historic event, the Global Day of Action (#Act4SDGs) will bring together individuals in every corner of the world to take action for the SDGs: to end poverty and inequalities, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
At UN Headquarters in New York, US, an SDG Media Zone session will take place from 1-2 pm EST, with speakers including: Achim Steiner, UN Development Programme; Federica Mogherini, European Commission (TBC); Kumi Naidoo, Amnesty International; Namhla Mniki Mangaliso, African Monitor; and Jayathma Wickramanayake, UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth. The event is designed to feel like the Global Day “news room” and to bridge local actions with global conversations.
This meeting is taking part during Global Goals Week 2018, which is a collective effort to maximize the value of events and activations held during the opening of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73) and focused on driving progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.
