Convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the UN, this World Conference constitutes a forum for dialogue and cooperation between parliaments at the highest level, and is part of a series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit for the adoption of post-2015 development agenda in September. The Conference will focus on peace, democracy, and development. It will include a general debate on the theme 'Placing democracy at the service of peace and sustainable development: building the world the people want' and two panel discussions on 'Parliamentary oversight: challenges and opportunities' and 'Translating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into action'. At the end of the Conference, participants will be invited to adopt an outcome document to be presented officially to the post-2015 UN Summit.
