The Expert Working Group on Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) was mandated by the 12th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) of the Basel Convention with a new work programme covering manuals and fact sheets, training programme models, a guide for self-assessment of national capacity, tools for verification of ESM, and an analysis of benefits related to implementation of ESM.
