23-24 June 2016 Rabat, Rabat-Sale, Morocco
First Alliances and Coalitions Global Forum

The Forum is being organized by the incoming Moroccan Presidency of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) in collaboration with the French Presidency of COP 21, the UN Secretary-General, the UNFCCC and Peru. The Forum's aim is to lay the groundwork for the organization of the high-level event on climate action, scheduled to take place during COP 22 in Marrakesh, Morocco. It will also provide the opportunity for: the strengthening of coordination of climate action and encourage new voluntary initiatives; coalitions to discuss their implementation and plans for Marrakesh, and possible cooperation and synergies; the high-level champions to showcase their vision and expectations to maintain action and strengthen voluntary initiatives to accelerate the pathway from 2 °C to 1.5 °C. Parties and non-governmental stakeholders will also discuss ways to: strengthen the links between national action plans and voluntary initiatives, as well as the organization of the voluntary initiatives themselves; improve access to data; and share good practices. Key themes for discussion include: the strengthening of initiatives and means of implementation: the link between voluntary initiatives, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); credibility and a reporting system; the high-level event on climate action in Marrakesh; organizational support to maintain the dynamics of voluntary action. An aide-memoire capturing the discussions will be produced and published after the forum.
