The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on SDG 8 in preparation for the 2025 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will take stock of progress towards SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and identify innovative solutions to accelerate progress towards SDG 8 objectives of eradicating poverty, tackling inequality, and fostering inclusive growth. The meeting will also discuss interlinkages between SDG 8 and other SDGs, including consideration of synergies and tradeoffs with other goals and targets.
The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) will organize the meeting in collaboration with other partners. Participants will also consider challenges that have emerged since SDG 8 was last reviewed in 2019 and reflect on ways to harness political momentum from the Summit of the Future (SoF) and the 2023 SDG Summit.
The Expert Group Meeting will help inform HLPF 2025, which will take place on the theme, ‘Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind’. In addition to SDG 8, the HLPF will conduct in-depth reviews of SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 14 (life below water), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals). The meeting’s discussions are expected to help assist in planning the HLPF sessions and contribute towards identifying collaboration and programmes of work on SDG 8.
