The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in cooperation with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), is organizing this regional forum to facilitate policy planning on renewable biomass. The forum will discuss topics such as: economic, environmental and social benefits and challenges of bioenergy; the food-energy security nexus; health and environmental impacts of fuel wood use and benefits of improved forest management; and policy tools from the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and GBEP to promote a sustainable bioenergy sector.
